The oldest of the three Kontiskan cables have been replaced by JD-Contractor

After 48 years the oldest of the three Kontiskan cables have reached its end of useful life, and have been replaced by a new 285 kV HVDC submarine cable.

The Danish TSO Energinet.dk contracted JD-Contractor to perform the replacement the oldest of the three Kontiskan cables between Læsø and Jutland. The work included PLGR, survey, cable transport, cable installation and post-burial by means of jetting.

The contract also includes the recovery of the old oilfilled cable. The recovery is however scheduled to early 2015.

The installation and protection of the new submarine cable between Jutland and Læsø was performing satisfactory and the schedule has been respected.
