Replacing submarine cable between Fur and Branden in the Limfjord, Denmark

The replacement of a 12 kV transmission cable to the island of Fur has just been completed by JD-Contractor. The contract was awarded beginning on the 3rd of March 2015. Four weeks later all work was completed and the cable was handed over to the owner.

In connection with an expansion of the Port on Fur one of the old transmission cables to the island needed to be replaced and relocated. Originally it was planned to establish a new connection with a directional drilling. However, because of the challenging underground in the area JD-Contractor A/S were call in at short notice to perform the replacement as a marine installation instead.

The work consisted of:

  • Route planning and survey of new cable route
  • Recovery and disposal of old cable
  • Loading, transportation and laying of new 3 x 150 PEX-AL 12 kV submarine cable
  • Burial of the new submarine by means of jetting into the seabed

After a few weeks of engineering our to near coastal vessel S/B Victor and M/S Honte started the installation on March the 27th and all tasks were completed and cable were handed over to EnergiMidt on the 7th of April 2015.
