In 2018 JD-Contractors A/S’s sister company JD Crafts A/S acquired the vessel Maersk Boulder from Maersk Supply Services. The vessel was initially bareboat chartered to a third party. In the summer, of 2019 the vessel was returned to JD Crafts, and the vessel has subsequently been overhauled and renamed “Boulder” and she will now be operated commercially by JD-Contractor A/S.

Following Maersk Drilling’s sale of the jack-up rig Giant (formerly named Mærsk Giant) to the LOTOS Petrobaltic Group, JD-Contractor carried out the Rig move of the “Giant” in September, from Esbjerg to Gdańsk for the new owners.

From the 25^th of August to September 10^th 2019, JD-Contractor successfully salvaged all the remaining oil and “Ghost nets” from the old tanker wreck Lindenäs off the East coast of Sweden in the Baltic Sea. The operation was carried out in 70-metre water depths by means of both divers and ROV’s. The goal was to do this salvage operation in the most environmentally friendly, safe and efficient way as possible.

In the spring of 2019 Sea War Museum (SWM) together with JD-Contractor and US-based Global Expeditions Group (GXG) performed its first large joined wreck survey expedition to the Baltic Sea. Over a period of little more than two weeks, M/S Cable One covered more than 600 nautical miles in the Baltic Sea, documenting, 33 wrecks.

By the end of 2018 JD-Contractors A/S’s sister company JD Crafts A/S purchased the vessel Maersk Assister from Maersk Supply Services. The vessel has been renamed “Assister” and will be operated commercially by JD-Contractor A/S.

After using the first months of the new year to overhaul all equipment and machinery, the vessel was docked in the beginning of March for its main survey, repaint and overhaul of thrusters etc. This week a changed vessel emerged from the dock to begin its new duties, operating as a part of the JD-Contractor fleet. 

On the 8^th of January one of the 400 kV cables between Denmark and Sweden was taken out of service due to oil leakage from the cable. The 35-year-old cable uses a special oil as part of the cable insulation. The oil is very thin and dissolves over time but still should not be present in the marine environment. Therefore, Energinet immediately contacted JD-Contractor under the framework agreement in relation to contingency repairs of all subsea cables in Denmark. JD-Contractor swiftly deployed several vessels including diving vessels Cable One and Honte to locate and find the leak with divers.
