Client: Frederikshavn Elnet A/S
Date: 29. July - 14. August 2009
JD-Contractor A/S was contracted to lay and bury a new 12 kW power supply cable in the shallow passage between Frederikshavn and Hirsholmene.
Prior to the work, JD-Contractor A/S did a thorough survey of the area: Jetted samples of the seabed were analysed and divers investigated the entire area. As a result of our measurements and observations, Frederikshavn Elnet A/S agreed upon the final positioning of the cable as shown in the above picture.
The cable was delivered in 5 sections and spliced into 2 longer lengths on land. They were then loaded onto the multi-purpose barge S/B Victor and unloaded from the harbours at Rønne and Hirsholm respectively. A final splicing was done on board S/B Victor after the two cables were unloaded, and the entire cable was then laid on the seabed.
The seabed at Hirsholm is very stony so before the cable could be laid a pre-dug trench was prepared for the cable to be placed in. The rest of the area was smooth, so the cable was laid on the seabed by JD-Contractor A/S’ jetting unit ”LIGHT-JET 10”
6 km of cable were laid and buried.
725 m were buried into the seabed and 5275 m was jetted down into the seabed.
The following vessels were used for the assignment:
- T/B Naja: tugboat
- M/S Honte: diving support and jetting equipment
- S/B Victor: cable laying and dispersion of gravel to cover the laid cables
